Torgiano

Located in the heart of Umbria, Torgiano is an ancient fortified medieval village set at the confluence of the Tiber and Chiascio rivers, amid rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive groves. It is an internationally renowned wine-producing center.

In the historic center, visitors can admire the Baglioni Tower, a remnant of the ancient fortified city walls, and two fountains created by the artist Nino Caruso: the Fountain of Janus (Fonte di Giano) and the Potters’ Fountain (Fonte dei Cocciari). Torgiano is rich in religious buildings, such as the Church of San Bartolomeo, built in the 18th century on the site of an ancient medieval parish church, the Church of Santa Maria del Castello, the Church of Madonna dell’Ulivello, and the Oratory of Mercy (Oratorio della Misericordia).

Inside the Church of Madonna dell’Ulivello, it is possible to admire paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, while the Oratory of Saint Anthony features 16th-century frescoes. The important Wine Museum and Olive Oil Museum are also worth visiting.

Torgiano is listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.”
